Photograph of an etched print portrait of chemist Amedeo Avogadro (full name being, Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregua e di Cerreto), from a drawing. Avogadro, who became a physics professor at the University of Turin in 1820, is noted for the theory of molarity and molecular weight, as well as Avogadro’s Law, which states that equal volumes of gases, at the same temperature and pressure, contain the same number of molecules.
