4.175″ long. Steel and brass. This fuze was armed by aerodynamic pressure. It turned out that the pressure did not get high enough below the velocity of sound. Work on this fuze was dropped in favor of the AIR-8. Cutaway showing state of fuze after launch.

For 3.5″ and 5.0″ aircraft rocket and 5.0″ high velocity aircraft rocket (HVAR). About 4″ long. Brass and steel, with zinc alloy magazine. First fuze designed specifically for aircraft rockets, it was completely moisture proof. Development begun Nov., 1943; between March and June, 1944, 45,000 fuzes manufactured and loaded by Caltech for the navy. “A”: cutaway version, stamped CIT LW lot 8; “B”: stamped WSM lot 47.

For 7.0″ chemical warfare rocket (CWR), modified from AIR-2. 2.9″ long, steel and brass (missing burster tube). About 600 manufactured by Caltech for testing but never standardized. The rocket for which it was disigned was replaced by the 7.2″ CWR, which used the AIR-5 (Mk147) fuze.
